Individuals vary.: I love Naphcon-A too! Very, very inexpensive as well. 2nd generation antihistamines, like ketotifen may be less effective than some 1st generation antihistamines like Naphcon-A (2 drug combo. Interestingly, if you took the oral equivalent of pheniramine (1 of the drugs in it) it can be very sedating, but this is not as much of a problem when used in the eyes.
Created for people with ongoing healthcare needs but benefits everyone.

Even if you don't have itchy eyes, just runny nose and sneezing, using Naphcon-A will help. It passes into the bloodstream and acts throughout the body. It is actually acts faster when used in the eye, than when taken by mouth. I find it is less sedating even than Claritin and far, far cheaper. 6 months ago, a bottle cost 3.95 cents at my local Walmart and this was brand name stuff.

This medicine was available by prescription only for years. WArning: if you rub your eyes first, it will cause some stinging. The dose is 1-2 drops in both eyes every 6 hours. BUT: the eye can only absorb one drop at a time, so wait at least 30-45 minutes before you use the second, if you need more relief. Don't exceed the total dose of 2 drops in each eye every 6 hours.

Correction of above , it acts faster than meds taken by mouth for allergies. (Do not take Naphcon-A by mouth)
