Decongestant: The safest and simplest medications to decrease and excess mucous in the back of your throat is a decongestant medication. There are quite a few over the counter medications in a pharmacy that you will find that will help greatly.

Thin out the mucous: Mucinex, (guaifenesin) sold over the counter, can help to thin out the post nasal drip.
