A member asked:

My 4yr old is 3ft tall but only 26 pounds, is it safe for her to sit forward facing in a car seat or should i keep her rear facing until she gains wgt?

REAR FACE: After 3+decades as a pedi and 16 years as a certified Child Passenger Safety Tech, I wish more parents like you asked the question. The seat absorbs more energy in a rear facing position that would otherwise throw the babies head forward and risk spinal cord injury. The best practice is to rear face until the RF weight limit of your seat. Most convertible seats now have 40-50 lb RF limit.
