A member asked:

My son had a full thickness tear of mcl during football. outside blow. it has been 3 weeks since injury and he feels good. what's risk if he plays?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Risky: A full thickness MCL tear is a serious injury. This may be associated with other knee injuries, including ACL tear, meniscus tear, or joint cartilage damage. Recommend comprehensive knee exam by an orthopedic surgeon including detailed knee exam and imaging before returning to sports. Typically 3 weeks is inadequate healing time for a full thickness tear and further injury could result.
