Neurologist: If there is no obvious reason for the calves to atrophy and there is true loss of sensation, a neurologist should be consulted for diagnosis and ordering of appropriate tests. However if sensation is normal and atrophy is from disuse,then physical therapy is needed and soreness after therapy may or may not occur depending on how vigorous it is.
