Wrong strep: Strep B is a normal germ in the human digestive tract and not known to cause throat infections. It does occasionally case urinary tract infections in women, but is not a significant problem for most. The real reason we look for it has to do with a vulnerability a newborn to get sick and die if it passes to them in labor/at delivery.Group A strep causes throat infections.
