Type of heel pain: Known also as calcaneal apophysitis, it is an irritation of the growth center at the back of children, particularly pre-teens. It is a condition that most children outgrow, but while it is active can be quite painful. Typical treatment includes anti-inflammatory medication, stretching exercises and shoe modifications.
