I have a pounding headache and took 600 mg of ibprofen at 11 am and then 440 mg of aleve (naproxen) at 3:00pm. is this toxic?

No.: A single ordinary dose of ibuprofen and a single ordinary dose of naproxen sodium as you describe will not cause toxicity in healthy individuals.

Not toxic: Ibuprofen can be taken every 4 to six hours, so taking Aleve (naproxen) at 3pm should be fine. However Aleve (naproxen) should only be taken every 8 to 12 hours so you should not take any more of either until 11 pm. Aleve (naproxen) and ibuprofen can both cause stomach bleeding but that’s more common with chronic use. Try to stick to one or the either to avoid confusion.

Not a problem at all: However, any headache always must be viewed as a valid medical disorder and the headache assessment must be comprehensive. It is important to make an accurate diagnosis to ensure that the correct treatment is given. See your PCP for consultation, tests and diagnosis.
