Can autism in children be "cured" with intensive therapy?

No: Unfortunately, researchers have not discovered what causes autism nor what cures autism. Autism is not cured by weekly therapy, more therapy, or even intensive therapy... because there is no known way to correct the problem in the brain. In recent years, many types of children with autistic traits are just being labeled "autistic", but we will be better able to figure things out in 20-30 years.

NO: The condition changes over time and has a tendency to improve some with just loving support. Various therapies help families suppress troublesome behavior and help the kid with communicating needs.Research is finding evidence of genetic changes in these kids, so accept this as more like a Down Syndrome than a bad ear infection. You do the best with what you have.
