A member asked:

Is there any way to get std's if both you and your partner have had no previous sexual partners/don't currently have std's?

Nope: STDs don't appear out of nowhere. They have to be caught from an infected sex partner. However, there are some infections that are not sexually acquired, but which can then be transmitted to a partner. In that way, an apparent STD can appear in a monogamous couple. Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) is an example. Also hepatitis B, which could be caught by blood exposure then sexually transmitted.
