Depends on risks: Mononucleosis is a viral infection spread by cough/droplets. The patient is contagious for about a day before the first fever and is considered contagious until no fever over 101.5F for 24 hours. Practice good hand washing and ask him to cover up his coughs and it's probably going to be ok - besides you were probably already exposed. Most have immunity after first infection.

MIXED RISK: It is likely you were fully exposed before he found out he had mono. Trying to avoid the issue now is unlikely to matter and you could be incubating the illness.That said, many have the illness as a younger child/school aged kid and it is similar at that age to a flu. If you already had it you are immune.
