Had an accidental subdural block, that resulted in ptosis, during induced labor (very scary). can you explain what happened and why it's a big deal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ptosis: Horner's syndrome is a rare occurrence following lumbar epidural analgesia for labor pain or caesarean section. It is a triad of ptosis, miosis (constricted pupil), enophthalmos and vasodilation. It occurs when the sympathetic nerve supply to the pupil, levator palpebrae (muscle that raises the eyelid) conjunctiva and face is interrupted. The drug used spreads when given in the epidural space.
