Multiple factors: The diagnosis of lupus is made based on a constellation of clinical and laboratory criteria. That is there are a number of pre-determined symptoms, physical signs (things a Dr. sees when examining you), and findings on bloodwork. A minimum number of these must be present in order for the diagnosis to be made. So, you would need to have a physical exam and have blood work drawn.
