The teenager, otherwise fine, has stools that often float and otherwise tend to be lighter colored, sometimes soft and yellowish. is this something to be concerned about? he has always been a skinny kid, as well.

Floating stool?: Usually when you have a story of floating stool that indicates a high fat content in the stool. You have to consider the diet for one. You also have to consider various malabsorption syndromes. If your own doc feels uncomfortable doing the work up then go to a good gastroenterologist .

Depends: Need to know more dietary history , frequency of stool, his growth pattern , any other symptoms associated with it. Most likely if he has no other complaints & he is gaining wt appropriately there is nothing to worry about.
