Paronychia: can be caused by bacteria or fungus such as yeast or can be due to foreign material or scar under the nail fold. One topical ointment that can help is Bactroban (mupirocin) which is a prescription antibiotic but does not treat fungal infections. Indigo violet has antiseptic antibacterial and anti fungal properties and application can help.but swollen paronychia with pressure may need drainage
