Damaged Matrix.: First consider just why the first toenail fell off. When the toe is traumatized, the nail can also be affected. If the nail root cells are damaged by the initial toenail trauma, they can become stunted. This means that the nail they produce will have a distorted appearance. This distortion can be either temporary or permanent. There is really nothing to do but wait and see as the nail grows.

It is possible that: the reason why it fell off was that you damaged it. If you did the nail may not grown normal. I would try to file the ridge and apply a covering to nourish the nail.
