Iv: The first thing that happens is a history is taken and then an IV is started. Then the rest is up to your doctor. Best wishes.

After registration: Taken to room on l&d, undressed, hooked to monitor, IV started for access, and assessed. Depending on progress of delivery process on arrival, likely meet anesthesiologist & get epidural placed if close to delivering. If not yet, process explained & consented for later. Monitors checked by rn frequently until ready to birth. Dr comes, bed set up, pushing coached & you meet a new lovebug!

Family practice : Depends on the time allotted sometimes a catheter to empty the bladder. Sometimes an enema. If a lot of pain they give you an option for epidural they usually do a blood count , blood type and rh, and urinalysis . They will put you on a fetal monitor.
