Cystic acne : You describe cystic acne as a problem. You definitely do not want to "release the gunk" on your own as this will worsen the chances of scarring and infection. Combination therapy of an antibiotic to treat an underlying acne bacteria combined with an exfoliating topical treatment is warranted. Many primary care docs treat acne, so check with yours first.
