Ans: Skin lesions are common. Could be anything. The best thing to do is watch it. Try to get the size and shape and write in down. If there is a change in the size or shape then you must see your doctor. It may or may not resolve on its own. Keep an eye on it but don't continuously touch and poke at it.

Likely a lymph node: There are a number of lymph nodes scattered around the head and neck where they are easily found. This sounds like one. At rest they may be the size of a pea and when stimulated they are often bean sized or larger, often reflects bug bits, skin rashes or throat irritation, gets larger then shrinks over a 3 week period. Your doc can confirm this.

Is a tumor: The most common structure in front of the ear is parotid gland. It presents as a small lesion in the anterior lobe sitting just above branches of the facial nerve or as a larger lesion possibly with nodes. One must assume this is parotid and on basis of clinical findings and incidence, that it is benign. H&N surgeon should evaluate and if dx confirmed then surgical resection.
