Many possible causes: The most likely cause is anovulation. There are however many different possible causes that must be ruled out. The most important thing to understand is that bleeding when prolonged can lead to anemia. If the bleeding is heavy anemia can develop quite quickly. This can require blood transfusion. It is important to be evaluated to find the cause of your bleeding and its effect on your blood count.
