Strep: Dexamethasone would be an unusual treatment for strep throat as it's treated with penicillin or erythromycin. Do you think you're being treated for infectious mononucleosis? Discuss this with your physician who knows your findings and test results. Injectable corticosteroids are usually limited to no more often than every three months.

Get another MD!!: Dexamethasone is a very potent steroid which has multiple effects on multiple organ systems. That is NOT how you treat a strep throat. You can be treated with antibiotics and painkillers, not steroids.

Decadron (dexamethasone): One injection of dexamethasone up to 5 times a year should not lead to systemic side effects of steroids. For patients who receive them more frequently monitoring for side effects such as high blood pressure and high blood sugar, cataract .. etc is warranted
