Options....: There are several. It depends on where the scars are and how old they are. Sometimes topical treatments may be beneficial. More invasive options like dermabrasion, peels or scar revision may help depending on your situation. Seek a (facial) plastic surgeon out for advice.

Permanent: Scars are permanent. The only way to get rid of a scar is to surgically cut it out, ideally by creating a cut and leaving a new scar in a less conspicuous area. Every injury through the full thickness of the skin leaves a visible scar forever.

Improve NOT remove: It is possible to improve scars but nearly impossible to remove scars. This requires an assessment of thickness, width, depth, color, texture, location, direction, behavior, adjacent/adherent tissues etc. Depending on the evaluation, an apporopriate intervention(s) is prescribed or recommended. Techniques used may inlcude excision, incision, flap/graft, rearrangement, resurfacing, laser, etc.

Scars are permanent: All scars are permanent, but a skilled plastic surgeon can often improve position, quality, or color of scars. There is no laser, surgeon, or technique that can completely remove or eliminate scars, however, so don't be taken in by slick marketing! dr. Tholen.
