Need diagnosis: Bronagh, sounds like you have soreness, not tenderness, and it is aggravated by certain muscles used when you are sitting up. Does it then go away? If so, you have strained those muscles and just need to learn to roll to one side and push yourself up until it clears up. If pain persists, or other joints are involved you should see your GP for possible arthritis. Meanwhile, sleep on a hot pad.
