Genital warts & sex: Genital warts are cause by the hpv. This virus stays in the skin and can be passed to the partner during sex whether the lesions are present or not. Since one can be at risk for cervical or anal cancer from certain types of hpv, if the male partner has hpv, he must always use a condom to help prevent transmission of the virus. Condoms don't always prevent infection but they decrease the risk.
