Indirectly . . .: While I can't imagine drinking an occasional beer being harmful, drinking to excess, thus consuming calories w/o nutritional benefit, could lead to characteristic beer belly or central obesity which could then increase risk of diabetes. If you never consume more than 2 alcoholic drinks/d, eat healthy & exercise regularly, all the while maintaining healthy weight, less likely to develop diabetes.

Beer: Like anything else, "too much of a good thing is no good for anybody"! Sure you can have beer but never overdo it!
