Confusing question: I would suppose that an eye nerve can self destruct in a number of ways, and if so it's function would end. It would wither and be replaced by scar tissue. Nerves do not have the tendency to "rupture" like you might understand a blood vessel would do with a weak wall. Blood vessel ruptures cause injury to nearby tissue. When nerves die, they just quit working.
