Normal: Every pregnancy has an associated ovarian cyst (the corpus luteal cyst of pregnancy) that is essential to the pregnancy because it is responsible for maintaining the pregnancy. That cyst may continue to enlarge through the first trimester and 8 cm is not outside the normal range. The cyst usually begins to resolve by 15 weeks but may persist throughout the pregnancy. They rarely require removal.
