A member asked:

Can someone have a sensitive anal cavity? i have ibs-c...very gassy at times...no pain after defecating, none while wiping (nor blood)

A doctor has provided 1 answer

sensitivity varies: Patients with Ibs-c (constipation predominant) can have constipation due to impaired visceral (gut) sensation or on top of ibs have overlap with slow transit constipation or pelvic floor dysaynergia(abnormal pelvic muscle function) during defecation. Constipation can be associated with increased gas. Rectums sense stool via stretch receptors and may be insensitive in constipation.
