My dad has shingles. he's frequently around my son, who is almost 5 years old and was vaccinated at age 1 for chckpox. risk to my son if no contact?

Minimal if any: Shingles patients may spread the germ from direct contact with the germ/debris to susceptible patients. This differs from Cpx that can transfer through airborne droplets. Your sons vaccination gives at least 85% full protection from the disease.Without direct contact ,I cannot see a way he could get it if he were not protected.

None: Kids usually get 2 shots for chickenpox, 1 at 12 months and 1 at 5 years. After 2 shots he should be immune. He should also be safe if he has not had contact with the herpes zoster. All the best.
