A member asked:

When your mother smoked while she was pregnant and after can it affect you in the future?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

IUGR & smoking: Smoking exposes the fetus to toxins and other chemicals that delay fetal and brain growth. Sometimes the infants when born "catch up" with their peers of non-smoking mothers, and sometimes in severe cases studies show that they do not. Smoking in pregnancy is NEVER a good idea as the costs are "borne" by both the mother and baby.
