Gynecologist: Your gynecologist is best qualified to evaluate,advise and treat you for this problem, and unless you're having continuous pain,bleeding,discharge or fever, it's better to wait to see your gynecologist rather than go to the hospital emergency room tonight as I think you would rather see a specialist for this problem rather than a nongynecologist.

IUD's & cramping: When IUD's are initially inserted, cramping is quite common. However, if these are sharp pains, first make sure that your IUD is still in place by feeling for the string inside the vagina (cervix). If the string is missing, see your MD immediately as the IUD may have been extruded and not in the correct place. If the pains continue and the string is present see your GYN MD to rule out infection.
