Yes: yes any urgent care can check a random blood sugar and order a HbA1c, either or combo can help. The American diabetic association http://www.diabetes.org has helpful info. Best of luck.

Marginal benefit: If your kid has been loosing weight (like 5 pounds in a week), drinking fluids and eating ravenously, go to an ER not an urgent care center. If you have concerns about affected relatives, minor changes in feeding or drinking, see his doc for a scheduled visit. Kids under 10 developing diabetes usually get into real trouble within days of early symptoms.

Possibly: Diabetes is best diagnosed with fasting blood sugars, HgbA1c and fasting insulin, usually ordered by your primary care doctor. Diabetes is sometimes diagnosed in an ER or urgent care facility if symptoms are severe and acute in which case urine tests will be abnormal and blood sugar will be elevated. Normal ER evaluation does not exclude the possibility of diabetes.
