Unlikely, but poss: rectal bleeding usually external hemorrhoids. Conservative Sweetman such as change the diet stool softeners and efforts to improve the softness of the bowel movements the step one. Also medications such as preparation H can reduce swelling inflammation

Need to be sure.: I'm concerned that your mom's doctor said "it may be hemorrhoids" since, if it's not OBVIOUS, then other sources of bleeding from the digestive tract must be checked out. Hemorrhoids are not fatal, although, if she has a lot of frequent bleeding, they can cause anemia. In this case, treatment might be banding, injecting with a chemical or using laser to make them shrink or, lastly, surgery.

It does not kill: bleeding from hemorrhoid does not kill,it looks like a lot ,you only need a few drops of blood to colored the whole toilet bowel,or to stain the toilet paper. i will recommend that she will have a colonoscopy, it will confirmed the diagnosis, and make sure there is no other bleeding higher up,and it will clear and screen you mother from colon cancer for the next 5-10 years.
