Yes: Weight gain is one of the symptoms of underactive thyroid but there are other factors that control ones weight and metabolism including the type of food one eats, age, gender, level of activity, function of the adrenal gland and many more. I have many patients who have low functioning thyroid but are not overweight, some actually quite thin.
