Many possibilities: This is hard to answer without more info, including seeing it. It could be due to any number of types of insect bites (which could have occured while asleep) but could be due to a fungus (called ringworm). If there is a central red circle surrounded by another red ring that is a sure sign of early Lyme disease and requires intensive treatment (I advise doxycycline 200 mg 2x/day for 30 days).
