Everything is fine: Autoinocuation (transmission of HSV to a different part of the body) occurs sometimes during the initial infection, but almost never in longstanding infection, more than a few months. The immune system prevents it. Also, dilution and maybe soap in the shower would be very low risk. It makes sense to wash hands first, especially during an HSV-1 herpes outbreak. But still little risk if you forget.
