Depends: Causes of seizure vary by age. In children, genetic causes of epilepsy and any condition that changes the structure of the brain or the chemistry of the body can cause seizures. In the developing world, the most common cause of seizure in adults is infection by neurocysticercosis. In older people, the most common cause of seizure is stroke. Head injury is another important cause at all ages.
