HIV testing: There are several ways to test for HIV infection but most accurate early on is RNA testing in which you look for actual HIV virus at 10 days, rather than body's antibody response which can take much longer. These are best guess: Once a person is exposed to infection the body starts making antibodies, and this starts within a week or so but peaks at 4 to 6 weeks. Usually if someone is not showing any antibodies to the HIV for 6 months, we consider them not exposed.
