Can you please list the common causes of miliary shadowing on chest x ray?

Multiple causes: The word miliary means small seed like nodules (shadows). The word miliary is synomomous with infections such as tuberculosis or malignancy. These findings need to correlated with history and physical. Sometime additional testing such as ct scan is needed to further characterize the shadows.

Diffuse lung spots: Miliary is distinctive pattern on chest radiograph of many tiny spots distributed throughout lung fields with appearance similar to millet seeds.Pattern also seen in granulomatous infections such as TB and coccidiodomycosis.Sometime mimiced by other viral, fungal, and community acquired infections. Measles, lymphangytic cancer spread,histiocytosis and HIV-related pulmonary opportunistic infections
