STD is possible: Cervical inflammation (cervicitis) is the main finding in women with gonorrhea or chlamydia. But other problems can also cause it, and both these STDs are uncommon in women over 30 -- depending of course on risks like new partner, partner with other partners, etc. Non-STD causes of cervicitis are poorly understood. Your doc probably did a pap smear, since HPV/dysplasia can mimmic cervictitis.

Cervicitis has: multiple causes some std infections like chlamydia or gonorrhea , genital herpes, trichomoniasis can cause cervicitis. Some non std infections also can cause cervicitis. It is possible that np gave you antibiotic aganist one of the agent causing your cervicitis.
