Trust your instincts: First, check out the doctor's credentials. Make sure you find a plastic surgeon who is certified by the american board of plastic surgery. Second, meet with the plastic surgeon and tell them honestly what your goals are. Lastly, after meeting with them, make sure you trust what they are telling you and that you believe they can give you the results you are looking for.

Research: I would suggest starting with the american society and/or board of plastic surgery to obtain a list of well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. Arrange consultations and ask to see his/her before-and-after pictures and to potentially meet with patients who have had similar surgery.

Search ASPS: If you are having elective cosmetic surgery – please check the credentials of your surgeon. Be sure he is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has a very nice "find a doctor" section. (PlasticSurgery.org)
