Local med society: Best to call your local medical society for a list of competent surgeons. Next talk to your friends who have had a procedure done and seek their recommendations. Another source would be your current physician, he/she should be familiar with the local talent.

Search ASPS: Surgeons who get Boarded by the American Board of Plastic Surgery have a much more rigorous and comprehensive training. So, if you are having elective cosmetic surgery–please check the credentials of your surgeon. Be sure he is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery! The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has a very nice "find a doctor" section. (PlasticSurgery.org)
