Cold: He can take any of the OTC preparations with phenylephrine in it for decongestion and an analgesic like acetaminophen such as Tylenol Sinus Congestion & Pain Daytime or Vicks DayQuil Sinex. But he should avoid anything with dextromethorphan in it for cough as it does have a potential adverse reaction in it with the Zoloft (sertraline). He can use diphenhydramine preparations for nighttime.

See below: There is no interaction between Zoloft (sertraline) and Coricidin Cold and Flu (sold OTC), but bear in mind, that with or without a prescription, nothing helps a cold very much other than time. My sympathies to him. (Chicken Noodle soup can sometimes do wonders.)

Taking psych: medicine shouldn't interfere with overcoming a cold- Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend something. Drink fluids, rest and make sure he is eating enough fruits/veggies for proper elimination.
