Fever after chemo: This needs be looked into asap. Call your oncologist. After chemo your WBC count is often low. Thus your immune system is compromised and this predisposes you to infections. DO NOT WAIT

FEVER S/P CHEMO: Get prompt evaluation by oncology or ER. The chemo may have suppressed your bone marrow and lowered WBC count. You need prompt evaluation for infection. EXAM/LABS/CXR

Immune suppression: Chemotherapeutics are immune suppressive agents effecting the WBC and as such immunocytes. If the count drops below 2000, the host is susceptible to infection that must be handled by intravenous antibiotics If Inf not brought under control end organ failure can occur. Similarly chemo can effect the lining of the GI tract allowing bacteria to enter blood stream with further sepsis .
