Chest x-ray: A chest x-ray could identify the following causes of chronic cough. 1. Foreign body in the lungs or esophagus 2. Tumor in the lungs 3. Heart failure with pulmonary edema (fluid in lungs) 4. Large lymph nodes in mediastinum pressing on the airway 5. Over-expanded lungs seen in asthma 6.
