Not usually, but...: Hemorrhoids a nothing more than swollen veins in the anal canal. But they can be swollen up with a clot that can cause enough pain to cause the sphincter muscle to spasm. That can make it difficult to poop. Also, it is common for people to have an anal fissure that can also cause a spasm, but is mistaken for a hemorrhoid.
