Variable: This is variable for some but generally 5-7 days. A single dose such as this usually cures chlamydia and is one of the CDC recommendations. However, make sure you have a test of cure to make sure it is eradicated, notify any recent sexual partners and abstain from sexual activity until your chlamydia test is negative.

7-10 days: Probably you are referring to azithromycin. A single 1 gram dose is standard treatent for chlamydia. It works so well because it's very long acting: the azithromycin will remain in your system for 7-10 days. Make sure partner(s) also treated. Talk to your doctor about retesting, recommended routinely after about 3 months, to detect rare treatment failure and occasional reinfection.
