My ob gyn gave me valacyclovir for 5 days every 12 hours. i'm 7 weeks pregnant . i read it's safe to take acyclovir..is valacyclovir safe for my baby?

Should be safe: Valacyclovir is converted to acyclovir as it is absorbed through the intestine, giving higher levels of acyclovir in the blood than acyclovir itself. Your baby will be exposed only to acyclovir, just as if you had taken that drug. So even though valacyclovir hasn't actually been studied in pregnant women, almost certainly it is entirely safe.
