"Prepackaged" drug: Valacyclovir is exactly the same as acyclovir, except there is an additional chemical structure stuck to it, that allows the drug to be easily absorbed in the digestive system. This additional structures is then cleaved off in the liver to acyclovir. In terms of achieving adequate levels of drug in the blood, it's just as good if not better than acyclovir.
