A member asked:

My son is 6 weeks & 4 days old, he's bottle fed since birth. im now taking interest in breastfeeding him but i smoke. since i smoke is it harmful?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No, it's not harmful: Breastfeeding is helpful in preventing respiratory illnesses in babies who live in homes where there is smoking. Try to smoke as little as possible, which is good for you and your baby. Also try to not smoke in the same room as the baby. It might be difficult to start breastfeeding at 6 weeks. A lactation consultant might be helpful in getting your baby to latch and increasing your milk supply
